Common Questions

Do I need a visa for Timor-Leste?

Most nationalities receive a visa on arrival for USD $30, granting 30 days. Bring cash for the fee — card machines at Dili's airport can be unreliable. Confirm your nationality's eligibility with us before you travel.

When is the best time to visit?

The dry season (May to November) is ideal for trekking, driving mountain roads, and diving. The coast and Atauro Island are year-round destinations. Ramelau requires dry season conditions.

Is Timor-Leste safe for travellers?

Yes — Timor-Leste is one of the safer destinations in Southeast Asia for independent travellers. Dili is calm and walkable. Locals are genuinely hospitable. The usual common-sense precautions apply.

What currency does Timor-Leste use?

The US dollar is the official currency. Bring physical USD — especially if you're travelling outside Dili. ATMs exist in the capital but are limited elsewhere. Always carry cash for rural travel.

How do I get to Atauro Island?

The public ferry runs from Dili port several times a week and takes about 2 hours. Cost is approximately $10–15 each way. Private speedboats are also available if you're in a group. Book guesthouse accommodation before you go.

Can you help plan a custom itinerary?

That's genuinely our favourite thing. Fill in the form above with your dates, interests, and pace of travel — we'll put together something you'll want to actually follow. No cookie-cutter tours.
